Helping Dogs Master Social Skills in San Diego
Because Socializing Shouldn’t Be a Disaster
Some dogs are natural social butterflies, while others think ‘making friends’ means barking in someone’s face. Our Socialization Training in San Diego gently introduces your pup to other dogs, people, and new environments, helping them build confidence and avoid unwanted behaviors.
We don’t just talk about socialization, we make it happen. Whether it’s a busy sidewalk, a park full of excited dogs, or a cafe patio, we train your dog in real-world situations to ensure they stay calm, cool, and collected.
The result? A dog that can handle different environments, interact politely with others, and actually enjoy social situations, without turning into a chaotic whirlwind of nerves and excitement.
Got Sit Dog Training is North County San Diego’s go-to dog training company, bringing real-world training techniques that actually work. Founded in 2007 by Marvin Versteeg, what started as a solo mission to create well-behaved, confident dogs has grown into a game-changing training system that dog owners love.
With so much dog training advice floating around online—and let’s be real, every friend, neighbor, and random dog park stranger has their own “expert” opinion—it’s hard to know what actually works. That’s where we come in. We let you see the results before you commit.
We believe in proven, practical training, and we want you to feel 100% confident in your decision. That’s why we offer a free in-home consultation—no strings attached. We’ll show you exactly what we do, work with your dog right in your home, and even bring one of our own dogs to demonstrate just how well our system works.
No two dogs (or owners) are the same, which is why we offer a variety of tailor-made training options designed to fit your specific needs. Whether you have a rambunctious puppy, a stubborn adolescent, or a dog with behavioral challenges, we have a program that works for you.

Most dogs need more than one thing. These pair naturally with dog socialization training.

Calm, controlled exposure to the real world, not a free-for-all at the dog park.
Teaching your dog to stay calm and look to you around other dogs, people, bikes, skateboards and noise. Lessons start in your home, then move into real-world sessions: a quiet residential loop in San Marcos, the sidewalks of Carlsbad Village, the Oceanside harbor, an Encinitas cafe patio. Your trainer controls the distance and the pace so your dog succeeds at each step.
Usually not. Dog parks teach many dogs that every other dog is a reason to lose their mind, and a fearful dog can get overwhelmed in minutes. We aim for neutrality: your dog notices the other dog on the Lake Poway trail and keeps walking with you. Once that is solid, play with known dogs can be a reward, not the goal.
No. An adult dog will not become a puppy again, but it can learn to be calm and polite around dogs and strangers. Many of our clients in Vista, Escondido and Oceanside have rescues that were never exposed to much. Your trainer builds trust at home first, then introduces the world at a distance your dog can handle.
Wherever your dog needs to be good. Early sessions use quiet neighborhood streets. Later ones use busier North County spots: the Encinitas stretch of Coast Highway 101, the Carlsbad seawall, Rancho Bernardo Community Park, the Miramar Reservoir loop in Scripps Ranch. Your trainer picks each location to match the step your dog is ready for.
